I reckon it could be a long time until they become really big. I think they'll be popular in novelty terms and are getting that way now but they're not anywhere near the point where they could be a realistic global alternative yet. Hybrids will be a pretty substantial stepping stone on route to electric cars. This doesn't just mean the Prius though. The biggest steps are actually being made by more unlikely sources. Land Rover are actually leading the way with their Land-e technology. Before we have full blooded electric cars, there will be a prolonged period of experimenting with hybrid technology. Honda will also be right up there. Got to think about things like bio-diesel too though. Like green energy for our homes, chances are there isn't going to be one quick-fix, more like a bunch of solutions working together. Electric cars will be here one day, but there may be other, better solutions that come along too. Check this out for a bit more info on Land-e... http://www.landrover.co.uk/gb/en/abo...net.htm?p=1095
